Description

This ultimate green bean casserole recipe brings back all the nostalgic flavors of a classic holiday side dish, featuring tender green beans in a creamy mushroom sauce, topped with crispy fried onions. Perfect for family gatherings and easy to prepare!

Ingredients

Scale

2 (14.5 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (6 ounce) can crispy fried onions, divided

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir until thoroughly mixed and the green beans are evenly coated.
Step 3: Gently stir in about 2/3 of the crispy fried onions into the green bean mixture. This step adds a fantastic crunch throughout the casserole.
Step 4: Pour the entire mixture into your prepared casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
Step 5: Bake for 20-25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the casserole is hot and bubbling around the edges.
Step 6: Remove the casserole from the oven. Carefully sprinkle the remaining 1/3 of the crispy fried onions over the top of the casserole.
Step 7: Return to the oven and continue baking for another 5-10 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and perfectly crisp. Watch closely to prevent burning.
Step 8: Let the green bean casserole stand for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your classic homestyle green bean casserole recipe!

Notes

For best results, ensure green beans are well-drained. If using fresh green beans, blanch them for 3-5 minutes until tender-crisp before adding to the mixture. You can assemble the casserole (without the final topping of fried onions) up to a day in advance and refrigerate. Add a few extra minutes to the initial bake time if baking from cold.
