Description

Unlock the secret to perfectly crisp and irresistibly seasoned homemade baked pita chips. This easy recipe transforms simple pita bread into a delicious, healthy snack or appetizer, perfect for dipping or enjoying on its own.

4-5 pita bread rounds (preferably thicker style)
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste


Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
Step 2: Stack the pita bread rounds and cut them into 8 equal wedges, similar to slicing a pizza. Alternatively, you can cut them into strips or squares.
Step 3: In a large bowl, combine the pita wedges, olive oil, garlic powder, dried oregano (if using), sea salt, and black pepper. Toss gently but thoroughly until all the pita pieces are evenly coated with oil and seasoning.
Step 4: Arrange the seasoned pita wedges in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Ensure they are not overlapping to allow for even crisping. If necessary, bake in two batches.
Step 5: Bake for 10-14 minutes, or until the pita chips are golden brown and crispy. Halfway through the baking time (around 5-7 minutes), flip the chips to ensure even browning on both sides. Keep a close eye on them during the last few minutes, as they can burn quickly.
Step 6: Remove the baking sheets from the oven and transfer the homemade baked pita chips to a wire rack to cool completely. They will continue to crisp up as they cool. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, good quality pita bread. Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your preference – smoked paprika, za'atar, or a touch of onion powder are also great additions. Ensure pita chips are completely cool before storing to maintain maximum crispness.
