Description
A fun and nostalgic recipe for creating stretchy, flavorful bubble gum at home from scratch.
Ingredients
1/2 cup food-grade gum base
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
1/2 teaspoon citric acid (optional for tang)
1/2 teaspoon bubble gum flavoring oil
2 drops pink gel food coloring
1 to 1.5 cups powdered sugar, sifted
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare your work surface by sifting 1 cup of powdered sugar into a large pile and making a well in the center.
Step 2: In a microwave-safe glass bowl, combine the gum base, corn syrup, and glycerin. Heat on high for 30-45 seconds until the base is soft and melted.
Step 3: Add the flavoring oil, citric acid, and food coloring to the melted base and stir with a silicone spatula until the color is uniform.
Step 4: Pour the melted mixture into the well of the powdered sugar. Use the spatula to fold the sugar into the gum until a dough forms.
Step 5: Once the dough is cool enough to handle, knead it by hand, adding more powdered sugar as needed until it is no longer sticky and becomes smooth and elastic.
Step 6: Roll the gum into ropes and cut into small pieces. Dust with a little extra sugar and wrap in wax paper.
Notes
Always use oil-based flavorings for the best texture and longevity of the chew.
