Description
Whip up this incredibly flavorful and easy homemade Italian dressing in minutes! Fresh, zesty, and far superior to store-bought, it's perfect for salads, marinades, and dipping.
Ingredients
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 tbsp dried Italian seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder (or 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced)
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
1/4 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
1/2 tsp granulated sugar (optional, balances acidity)
Instructions
Step 1: In a medium bowl or a jar with a tight-fitting lid, combine the red wine vinegar, dried Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar (if using). Whisk well to combine, or shake vigorously if using a jar.
Step 2: Slowly drizzle in the extra virgin olive oil while continuously whisking until fully emulsified and smooth. If using a jar, add the olive oil, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 30-60 seconds until well combined.
Step 3: Taste the dressing and adjust seasonings as needed. You might want more salt, pepper, or a pinch more sugar to balance the acidity to your liking.
Step 4: For best flavor, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Give it another good shake or whisk before serving. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks.
Notes
For an even richer flavor, you can add 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard to help emulsify the dressing and add a pleasant tang. If you prefer fresh herbs, use 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh basil, oregano, or parsley instead of or in addition to the dried herbs. Always shake well before each use as natural separation will occur.
