Description
A simple, refreshing, and perfectly balanced homemade lemonade recipe, reminiscent of nostalgic summer days. Made with fresh lemons, sugar, and water.
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup filtered water (for simple syrup)
1 to 1.5 cups fresh lemon juice (from 6-8 large lemons)
4 cups cold filtered water (for mixing)
Fresh lemon slices, mint sprigs, or berries for garnish (optional)
Ice
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the simple syrup. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with 1 cup of filtered water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Do not boil vigorously; just enough to dissolve the sugar. Once dissolved, remove from heat and let it cool completely to room temperature.
Step 2: Juice your lemons. You'll need about 6-8 large, fresh lemons to get 1 to 1.5 cups of fresh lemon juice. Roll the lemons firmly on a counter before cutting them in half. Use a citrus juicer (manual or electric) to extract as much juice as possible. Strain the fresh lemon juice through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any pulp and seeds.
Step 3: Combine ingredients. In a large pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup, the strained fresh lemon juice, and 4 cups of cold filtered water. Stir well to ensure all components are thoroughly mixed.
Step 4: Taste and adjust. Taste a small amount of your lemonade. If you prefer it sweeter, add more simple syrup. If it's too sweet, add a splash more fresh lemon juice or cold water. Adjust to your desired sweet-tart balance.
Step 5: Chill thoroughly. For the best flavor and refreshment, transfer the pitcher to the refrigerator and chill for at least 1-2 hours. This allows the flavors to meld and ensures your lemonade is perfectly cold.
Step 6: Serve and enjoy. Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled lemonade over the ice. Garnish with fresh lemon slices, mint sprigs, or berries if desired. Enjoy your refreshing homemade lemonade!
Notes
For an extra burst of flavor, you can lightly muddle a few mint leaves or berries in the bottom of your serving glass before pouring in the lemonade. This recipe is easily doubled or tripled for larger gatherings.
