Description

A vibrant and refreshing tropical cocktail, the Jamaican Purple Rain features a stunning layered effect of blue, purple, and red, bursting with pineapple, orange, and lime flavors, complemented by white rum and a hint of grenadine and blue curacao. It's the perfect drink to transport you to an island paradise.

Ingredients

Scale

2 oz white rum
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
0.5 oz fresh lime juice
0.5 oz Blue Curacao
0.5 oz Grenadine
Ice
Orange slice or cherry for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Fill a tall glass (like a hurricane or highball glass) generously with ice cubes.
Step 2: Add the white rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and fresh lime juice to the glass. Stir gently to combine these ingredients. This forms the base of your Jamaican Purple Rain.
Step 3: Slowly pour the Blue Curacao into the glass. It should settle slightly above the juice mixture, beginning to create the layered effect and initiating the 'purple rain' look.
Step 4: Now for the magic! Carefully drizzle the Grenadine down the side of the glass. The grenadine, being denser, will sink through the blue and yellow layers, creating beautiful streaks of red and mixing with the blue to form purple hues as it descends.
Step 5: Garnish your Jamaican Purple Rain with an orange slice, a maraschino cherry, or a fresh pineapple wedge. Serve immediately and enjoy your taste of the tropics!

Notes

For an even colder drink, chill all your juices and rum before mixing. The key to the distinct layers is to pour the grenadine very slowly down the side of the glass. If you pour too fast, it will mix too quickly and you won't get the beautiful 'purple rain' effect. Experiment with different garnishes like a twist of lime, a pineapple leaf, or even edible flowers to make your Jamaican Purple Rain extra special.
