Description
A perfectly balanced, refreshing classic lime margarita recipe, featuring fresh lime juice, quality tequila, and orange liqueur. The ultimate guide to making the best margaritas at home, with tips for variations.
Ingredients
2 oz (60ml) 100% Agave Tequila (Blanco or Reposado)
1 oz (30ml) Fresh Lime Juice
0.75 oz (22ml) Orange Liqueur (Cointreau recommended)
Optional: 0.25 oz (7ml) Agave Nectar or Simple Syrup (adjust to taste)
Ice
Lime wedge or wheel for garnish
Salt for the rim (flaked sea salt or margarita salt)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare your glass. Pour some coarse salt onto a small plate. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass to moisten it, then invert the glass onto the salt, twisting gently to create an even rim. Set aside.
Step 2: Combine ingredients. In a cocktail shaker, add the tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur. If you prefer a sweeter margarita, add the agave nectar or simple syrup now.
Step 3: Add ice and shake. Fill the shaker about two-thirds full with fresh ice. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. You want the shaker to be frosty on the outside – this means your drink is perfectly chilled and diluted. This is key for the best margarita recipes!
Step 4: Strain and serve. Strain the chilled margarita mixture into your prepared, salt-rimmed glass filled with fresh ice.
Step 5: Garnish. Garnish with a fresh lime wedge or wheel. Serve immediately and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Notes
For a pitcher, multiply ingredients by desired servings. Shake individual servings with ice just before serving. Experiment with different salts and garnishes for a personalized touch.
