Description

Discover the art of making a perfectly smooth and refreshing iced matcha latte at home, a cornerstone among many delightful matcha recipes. This guide provides the basic technique and creative variations for a daily dose of calm energy.

Ingredients

Scale

1-2 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha powder
2 ounces hot (but not boiling) water (around 175°F / 80°C)
1 cup cold milk of choice (oat, almond, soy, or dairy)
1-2 tablespoons natural sweetener (maple syrup, agave, or honey), optional
Ice cubes

Instructions

Step 1: Sift the Matcha Powder. Place 1-2 teaspoons of ceremonial grade matcha powder into a fine-mesh sieve set over your matcha bowl (or a small, shallow bowl). Gently tap the sieve to sift the powder into the bowl. This prevents clumps and ensures a smooth drink.
Step 2: Whisk the Matcha. Pour about 2 ounces (approximately 1/4 cup) of hot, but not boiling, water (around 175°F or 80°C) over the sifted matcha. Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small electric whisk, vigorously whisk the matcha in a 'W' or 'M' motion until a smooth, bright green paste forms and a thin layer of foam appears on top. Ensure no powder remains undissolved at the bottom.
Step 3: Sweeten (Optional). If desired, add 1-2 tablespoons of natural sweetener (maple syrup, agave, or honey) to the whisked matcha concentrate. Whisk again briefly to fully incorporate the sweetener.
Step 4: Prepare Your Glass. Fill a tall glass generously with ice cubes.
Step 5: Add Milk. Pour 1 cup of your chosen cold milk over the ice in the tall glass.
Step 6: Combine Matcha and Milk. Gently pour the whisked matcha mixture over the milk and ice. Stir everything together with a spoon or straw until the green color is evenly distributed. Serve immediately and enjoy your perfectly crafted iced matcha latte!

Notes

For best results, always use ceremonial grade matcha powder. Adjust sweetness and milk type to your personal preference. Sifting matcha is key for a smooth, lump-free drink.
