Description

A vibrant and refreshing Sotol cocktail balancing earthy Sotol with tart grapefruit, zesty lime, and a hint of spicy Ancho Reyes Verde, evoking the spirit of the desert.

Ingredients

Scale

2 oz Sotol
1.5 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice
0.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
0.5 oz Agave Nectar (or Honey Syrup, to taste)
2 dashes Ancho Reyes Verde (green chili liqueur) or a pinch of finely ground chili powder
Splash of sparkling water or club soda (optional)
Garnish: Grapefruit peel twist
Garnish: Chili-lime salt (for rim, optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare your glass. If desired, moisten the rim of your coupe or rocks glass with a lime wedge, then dip it into chili-lime salt. Set aside.
Step 2: Combine ingredients. In a cocktail shaker, add the Sotol, fresh grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, and Ancho Reyes Verde (or chili powder).
Step 3: Add ice. Fill the shaker with ice cubes. Ensure there's enough ice to chill the drink thoroughly.
Step 4: Shake vigorously. Secure the lid and shake well for about 15-20 seconds until the shaker is frosty cold.
Step 5: Double strain. Remove the lid and strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into your prepared glass, filled with fresh ice if using a rocks glass.
Step 6: Finish and garnish. If using, top with a splash of sparkling water for a lighter, effervescent finish. Express the oils from a grapefruit peel over the drink by twisting it, then drop it into the glass.
Step 7: Serve immediately and enjoy your handcrafted cocktail!

Notes

Adjust agave nectar to your preferred sweetness. For an extra spicy kick, muddle a thin slice of jalapeño in the shaker before adding other ingredients. Always use fresh citrus juice for the best flavor profile.
