This easy cheesy tater tot casserole is the ultimate comfort food, perfect for busy weeknights. Featuring seasoned ground beef in a creamy sauce, topped with melted cheese and crispy tater tots, it's a family-friendly dish that's simple to make and incredibly satisfying.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
1 small onion, diced
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken/celery)
1/2 cup milk
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
1 (32 oz) bag frozen tater tots
Optional: 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Step 2: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and diced onion over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.
Step 3: Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and black pepper into the beef mixture. Cook for 1 minute more.
Step 4: Add the cream of mushroom soup and milk to the skillet. Mix well until combined. If using, stir in the optional frozen mixed vegetables.
Step 5: Spread half of the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 7: Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the beef mixture. Make sure they are spread out for maximum crispiness.
Step 8: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
Step 9: Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese over the top of the tater tots.

Notes
For best results, do not thaw tater tots before baking. You can assemble this casserole ahead of time (without the tater tots on top), refrigerate, then add tots and bake just before serving, adding an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time.
