Description

Flaky, buttery crescent roll dough twisted with a sweet cinnamon sugar filling and drizzled with a simple vanilla glaze. These quick and easy treats are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a comforting snack.

Ingredients

Scale

1 (8-ounce) tube refrigerated crescent roll dough
1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
For the Glaze:
1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar
1-2 tablespoons milk (or water)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Step 2: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and a tiny pinch of salt. Stir well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.
Step 3: Unroll the crescent roll dough on a clean, lightly floured surface or directly onto your prepared baking sheet. Press the perforations together gently to form a solid rectangle of dough.
Step 4: Brush the entire surface of the dough generously with melted butter, ensuring every inch is covered.
Step 5: Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the buttered dough. Use your fingers to gently press the mixture into the dough so it adheres well.
Step 6: Starting from one of the longer sides, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log, aiming for a snug roll to prevent gaps.
Step 7: Using a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss, slice the log into 12 equal pieces, each about 1 to 1.5 inches thick. Place these slices, cut-side up, onto your prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
Step 8: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the twists are golden brown and puffed up.
Step 9: While the twists are baking, prepare the simple glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk (or water), and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust consistency as needed.
Step 10: Once the twists are out of the oven, let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Drizzle generously with the prepared glaze while they are still warm. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, ensure your crescent roll dough is cold when you start. This helps maintain its structure and flakiness. Store any leftover twists in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or a warm oven for a 'fresh out of the oven' experience.
