Description
A frightfully fun and easy no-cook appetizer featuring dill pickles transformed into spooky zombie fingers, complete with almond "fingernails" and a dab of "blood" for Halloween.
Ingredients
6-8 whole dill pickles
1/4 cup slivered almonds
1/4 cup ketchup (or sriracha, spicy mayo, or your preferred 'blood' sauce)
Optional: black sesame seeds for 'grime'
Instructions
Step 1: Rinse and pat dry the whole dill pickles. Slice each pickle in half lengthwise, creating two elongated 'finger' shapes from each pickle.
Step 2: On the rounded end of each pickle half, use a small knife to carefully cut a shallow, rectangular notch. This will be the 'nail bed' for your almond fingernail.
Step 3: Gently insert one slivered almond into each notch, positioning it to resemble a fingernail. Be careful not to break the almond.
Step 4: Arrange the assembled zombie pickle fingers on a serving platter.
Step 5: Using a small spoon or a squeeze bottle, dab a small amount of ketchup (or your chosen 'blood' sauce) at the base of each almond 'fingernail' or on the severed end of the pickle for a gruesome effect.
Step 6: (Optional) For extra creepy detail, score the pickle surface lightly with a knife to create 'knuckle' lines. Sprinkle a few black sesame seeds around the 'fingernail' for a 'grimy' look. Serve immediately and enjoy the screams (of delight!).
Notes
For extra creepiness, score the pickles with a small knife to create 'knuckle' lines. Serve with various 'blood' sauces like sriracha, spicy mayo, or even raspberry coulis to allow guests to customize their gory bites.
